Madison, Vis. , Wisconsin Democratic Lieutenant Gov. Sarah Rodriguez, a former emergency room nurse announced on Friday that she was running for the governor, after a day that a day after a day decided against demanding a third term.

Rodriguez is the first Democrat to officially enter the 2026 race. Many others are considering running after the village Tony Evers. On Thursday, he said that he was bending out.

The 2026 governor’s race for Wisconsin is not running for the first time since 2010.

Rodriguez, who will almost certainly face several Democratic primary opponents, vowed to push back against the administration of Republican President Donald Trump.

Rodriguez said in a campaign launch video, “We have found a crazy at the White House.” “Their tariffs are killing our farmers and their policies are hurting our children.”

Rodriguez has been a Lieutenant Governor since 2023, representing a suburban milvoki after a two -year tenure in the first state assembly where she lives. She won a seat which was under Republican control over the years.

Rodriguez first stressed on her background working as a nurse in a Baltimore emergency room, saying that she wanted to continue the emphasis of the Arers when she fought to protect breeding freedom, investing in public schools and rebuilding the economy.

He said that the State Legislature is within the reach of democratic control, which means that with a Democratic Governor, they can eventually apply policies Republican has blocked the years such as expanding medicids.

A registered nurse, Rodriguez first worked as a health care executive and an epidemic intelligence service officer with the Disease Control and Prevention Center. He has a master’s degree in public health.

Rodriguez emphasized the importance of health care, including protecting abortion rights, in a brief speech on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last year.

Rodriguez, who married two children, started her candidature on her 50th birthday.

In her first run for the office in 2020, when she was elected to the Legislature, Rodriguez said she was inspired to enter politics as Republican handled the Kovid -19 epidemic.

Rodriguez won Democratic Primary for Lieutenant Governor in 2022, which was after the then LT. Gov Mandela Barns, who organized the office in the first term of the Avers, decided to run to the Senate.

Barns, who lost the race for Republican Sen Ron Johnson, is one of the several Democrats who consider a run for the Governor next year. The other includes Attorney General Josh Kaul, State Sen Cald Royce, State Secretary Sarah Godlevsky, Milwauki Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Milwauki County Executive David Crole.

In the Republican side, Washington County Executive Josh Showman and Suburban Million Businessman Bill Berian is the only declared candidate. American Rape Tom Tiffany and State Senate President Mary Felz Kovski, including others, are considering it.
