San Juan, Puerto Rico – Police in Jamaica say they have suspected a conspiracy to kill five people as the department falls under fire to increase fatal firing on the Caribbean Island.
Officials said in a statement late Monday that the police was investigating the conspiracy of an alleged murder, due to which the authorities were taken to the place where the men were shot. The shooting took place at St. Andrew Parish on Monday afternoon, where the capital, Kingston is located.
Police said, “The authorities performed heavy shells and responded to the danger for their lives.”
Officials said no officer was injured, and they were searching for a sixth man, named “Bloodstein”.
Police said they reported the killings of the killings of Jamaica’s independent commission, in 2010, a government agency was formed to investigate complaints against Jamaica’s police, military and reform officials.
The island has been accused of long -term illegal murders and excessive use of force.
Last week, the Commission issued a statement stating that it was “a constant increase in fatal firing by the security forces, especially a fatal manner arising out of police operations, as well as a frequent failure to prioritize the deployment of body-wheeler cameras.”
It was noted that so far this year, Jamaica’s security forces have shot 177 people, compared to the same period last year, compared to 80, represent a 121% increase.
From July 18, 2024, till July 18 of this year, forces have killed 288 people. The Commission said that the police did not use body cameras in any of those incidents.
The Commission said, “A recurring topic in shooting incidents suggests that weapons have been pointed out on officials, but in the absence of third-party eyewitnesses or video evidence, investigators are unable to verify or justify the use of fatal force,” the Commission said.
